Link Between Age of Mum at Menopause and Woman’s Own Fertility

Do you know your mum’s age when she had her menopause? In a new Danish study of 527 women aged between 20 and 40, researchers found that ovarian reserve declined faster in women whose mothers had an early menopause (before the age of 45) compared to women whose mothers had a late menopause (after the age of 55). In general, the study concludes women are most fertile between the ages of 18 and 31.

A combination of measuring anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) and an antral follicle count, factored in with the age of a women’s mother at menopause is the best gauge of a woman’s ovarian reserve.
